The Ramstein, Germany based 37th Airlift Squadron participated with three C-130J Super Hercules aircraft in the special events commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the beginning of the invasion of France by Allied troops to liberate Europe. The 37th Airlift Squadron draws its lineage from the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron. Then flying Douglas C-47s, the unit dropped paratroopers outside of Sainte-Mre-glise, France, on D-Day. Just like the C-47s in 1944, Ramsteins C-130s are marked with the black and white invasion stripes and a W7. The designation Whiskey 7 helped the paratroopers know what plane to board.
