In 1958 TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways) ordered three Lockheed Electras. This was the second of that initial order. The aircraft was delivered in late December 1959 with its first revenue service in following January. It remained with the airline until May 1972 when it was sold in the USA. It had a varied career in North America including time with the famous Buffalo Airways. It has been targeted by the Bring Our Birds Home organisation to return it to New Zealand as a feature aircraft in their proposed museum. The model is depicted in the original livery before the airline changed its name to Air New Zealand.
