HISTORY OF A LEGENDARY SHIP: CUTTY SARK CLIPPER

In the same year of its launch, theSuez Canalwas opened, which made the route much shorter and gave an advantage to steamers. It was possible to cross the Suez Canal for a sailboat, but it was difficult and expensive, conditions for sailing in the Red Sea are far from ideal. Later, it would be dedicated to thetrade of wool from Australia, being thefastest boaton these routes during a decade, and it also would be used for thetransport of goodsbetween Porto, Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans, Lisbon and the Portuguese colonies. Finally, in1954it would be transferred to dry dock and become amuseum ship.
