Already having gained experience with the Lockheed Constellation that was first introduced in 1946, the refined and more capable L-1049 Super Constellation entered the fleet from 1953. The 13 L-1049C-versions delivered were not yet equipped with radar or wingtip tanks. To celebrate KLMs 40th anniversary, several aircraft received a special logo on the sides of the fuselage, as did this Connie named Photon.
